Magnetic powder crack test

With magnetic particle testing, cracks that are open towards the surface or near the surface can be displayed. The workpiece to be tested has to be made of a magnetizable material such as steel (iron), nickel or cobalt. Depending on the requirements and environmental conditions different magnetic powder test methods are available.
On the workpiece to be tested, a magnetic field is generated. The voids create a magnetic effect which is made visible with iron powder.
Standards: DIN EN ISO 9934; DIN EN ISO 17638 (welded joints); DIN EN 10228 (forged pieces); DIN EN 1369 (casting industry)
