For a structure evaluation of technical materials it is necessary to determine different phase contents quantitatively. These can be for example ferrite-shares in duplex-steel, C-fibers in CFRP-components, porosities in cast iron materials or precipitations in Al-materials. One possibility is the image-analytical determination of the phase shares in microscopic recordings. Hereby an accurate determination of the area share of the desired phases happens by a color value detection of the pixels and additional geometric functions.
With further downstream automatic coat thickness measuring tools, grain size determination, and so on are possible.
