Industrial Computed Tomography: castings
In the foundry field, we offer 2D X-ray inspection and 3D computed tomography non-destructive testing methods to characterize defects: defects include porosity, void and bubble formation, thermal crack formation, geometry deviations and inclusions.
X-ray inspection methods allow:
- Detection of voids and pores
- Geometry determination of internal structures
- Analysis of wall thicknesses
- Detection of inclusions and salt core residues
- Measurement of cooling channels
- Target/actual comparisons
- Inspection of material transitions
- Geometry determination of internal structures
2D X-ray inspection enables fast, reliable inspection of high volumes. Castings with unacceptable defects can be rejected early in the production process.
Industrial 3D computed tomography (CT) provides important supplementary information. For example, internal structures and remaining wall thicknesses can be accurately determined even for complex cast components. Such information is indispensable, especially for safety-relevant components.
