Damage to welding seams

Defective welded joints

The causes of faulty welded joints can be many and varied: Common reasons are insufficient weld preparation, incorrect selection of filler materials, failure to observe material behaviour, incorrect material combinations or failure to observe heat treatments.

Other typical faults are:

  •     Cardboard joints
  •     Solidification cracks
  •     Shrinkage
  •     Hardening
  •     Undesirable microstructure formation

All these faults or an unforeseen use of the component can lead to various consequential damages in later operation. The most common of these are fractures and corrosion damage.

Our experts and laboratory specialists identify the faults and advise on fault prevention.

Typical examination methods are metallography and hardness testing.
