Failure Analysis

Laboratory for failure analyses according to VDI 3822 on metallic, polymeric and ceramic components after cracks, fractures or corrosion.

Despite careful planning, design, production and successful test runs, faults and damage to technical components can occur even during normal operation. We help you to locate the primary damage, to clarify its cause and to determine remedial measures. In this way, you can prevent damage and financial losses in the future! Our remedial measures apply to all areas: Design, production, materials technology and operating conditions.

When does a failure analysis come into question?

Failure analyses are used when there has been a financial loss as a result of the failure of a product in "use". For example, in the case of:

  •     Fractures or cracks
  •     Increased wear and tear
  •     Increased corrosion
  •     Increased electrical resistance

on machines, individual elements or components. However, a damage analysis also makes sense for products before they are used:

  •     Repeatedly defective components in production
  •     Product failure in test runs and inspections
  •     Failure of components in development

In the case of components before use, there is no direct financial loss. However, by clarifying the cause(s) of the damage and determining suitable remedial measures, the number of rejects can be significantly reduced, thereby increasing productivity and reducing costs. Damage is thus prevented in advance!

What can we offer you?

With our experts and laboratory services such as environmental simulations, corrosion tests, fractographic evaluations, analytical material characterisations and metallographic examinations, GWP offers you a complete package to solve your problem. In addition, the development of sensible damage prevention rounds off our offer.

In doing so, we proceed according to the VDI guideline 3822 in order to guarantee comparability with a systematic analysis and to be sure to draw the right conclusions from the results. Our accreditation according to DIN EN ISO 17025 guarantees reliable test results and documents.

We rely on more than 40 years of experience in failure analysis of metals, plastics and ceramics. Since 2008, GWP has operated a cooperation laboratory with Allianz Risk Consulting, formerly AZT Allianz Zentrum für Technik.
