A scratch hardness tester can be used to carry out a scratch test on a coated surface. A scratch stylus is pulled over a test specimen with a previously defined constant force.
A “yes/no test” ultimately checks whether the stylus penetrates the surface down to the substrate with this force or not.
A test for a minimum load that penetrates a surface to the substrate is carried out by increasing the scratch force.
