The VDA 275 standard is a guideline of the German automotive industry that deals with the testing and evaluation of paints and coatings. It was developed by the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and serves as a guide for manufacturers, suppliers and testing laboratories to ensure that paints and coatings meet the quality standards of the automotive industry.
environmental requirements: VDA 275 also takes environmental aspects into account, including compliance with environmental protection regulations and the reduction of emissions during painting and coating.
Determination of formaldehyde release – measurement method according to the modified bottle method: requirements from VDA 275
For testing, test specimens of a certain mass and dimensions are placed in a closed bottle over distilled water and stored at a constant temperature for a defined period of time. The emitted formaldehyde in the water is then quantified using quantitative LC-MS. The amount of formaldehyde determined is related to the dry weight of the molded part (mg/kg).
