Problem:
To characterize membrane filter plates for recycling, the filler content and material composition were investigated.
Investigation strategy:
A step-by-step analysis of the particle structure and composition was performed.
Results:
- Material determination using FTIR spectroscopy:
- The filter plates are made of polypropylene (PP).
- Determination of the filler content in GRP using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA):
- The mass loss is 72 mass%.
- This results in a filler content of 28% by mass.
- Characterization of the filler using SEM-EDX:
- The filler was identified as silicate short glass fibers.
Conclusion:
The membrane filter plates examined consist of polypropylene with a filler content of 28% by mass. The filler contained is silicate short glass fibers.
